Feats of Clay will be held on First Friday at CLAY ARTS VEGAS !!- FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2012. Please be there at 4:30pm. The event will begin at 5pm.

Food is not included for this year's event. However there are great restaurants nearby.

Category 1 - 15 minutes

MUGATHON - Each mug must be 3 inches tall (highest point) and you must have a handle on each mug. One finger must be able to fit inside the handle strap and three fingers must fit inside the mug. The most mugs wins.

Category 2 - 15 minutes

NO HANDS THROWING - You are allowed 50 lbs. of clay. You are not allowed to use your hands at all. Any other body part is acceptable (head, knees, feet.) The width plus the height equals the winner.

Category 3 - 15 minutes

CYLINDER STACKING - Cylinders must be wheel thrown and can be any height or width. This tower must be free standing and you can only have one stack. Tallest stack wins.

Category 4 - 15 minutes

COIL BUILDING EVENT- From the floor to the sky, coils are used to create the tallest freestanding coil tower. If the tower falls before it gets measured, it will be measured from its current height. Once again, this is a freestanding sculpture.

Category 5 - 15 minutes

Pinch Pot with Feet - 4 students will make a pinch pot and raise it off the ground by creating "feet". The "feet" can be made in any hand building method as long as a pinch pot is balanced at the top. There is no minimum of how many "feet" you can use, and the size of the pinch pot must be created from a baseball size ball of clay or larger. A maximum of 50 lbs of clay may be used and students only have 15 minutes.

Category 6 - 15 minutes

House of Cards -4 students will create slabs of clay (no required thickness), and cut the slabs into rectangles (no size requirements). Students then must stack the slabs like a house of cards. The tallest house of cards made out of slabs of clay will win. A maximum of 50lbs of clay may be used and students only have 15 minutes.

Scoring for each event will go as follows for each event:
1st - 20 points, 2nd - 17 points, 3rd - 15 points, 4th - 10 points, the rest of the groups will receive 8 points.

Each school will make a t-shirt design for their school. The school should be wearing the same shirts. The winner of the design will be awarded 10 points and all other teams who designed a shirt will receive 7 points.

Each category will have 4 participants.

No prep work will be allowed except for wedging. Also, no balling up of clay will be allowed.

We will have 10 high schools allowed to participate this year. The first 10 to email me with an official head count of no less than 6 and a maximum of 10 kids will be allowed for each school. Once this is in order please email me to get registered.
