Second Saturday Raku

Second Saturday Raku  February 12 went very well. Michelle Gomez Houlk and I started firing about noon and finished about eight. I did a test firing of the new top hat kiln I built the week before on Tuesday. Derrik asked if he could put a plater in it so we glazed one of his platers with my new batch of Molly's Matt. I had to go to work before it was finished. The plater stress cracked and the molly's mat bubbled. So Friday remixed Molly's Matt, and mixed up a new recipe for white crackle. I renamed the old Molly's Matt, John's Mistake its copper mat flashing purple with silver and has a bubbly texture. It's very nice texture glaze no idea what I did wrong. I am throwing out all the other recipes for white crackle. The recipe I found in Ceramic Monthly for White Crackle has blown them all away.

Ferguson's White Crackle
65.0 Gerstley Borate
20.0 Nepheline Syenite
5.0 EPK Kaolin
10.0 Silica
Fire to 1850  pull and let cool for a count of 10
Reduce in a can with very little combustible. It turns grey with to much carbon.
