Once again - in order
to get your school registered - please make sure that you have at least 6
students and a maximum of 10 students (4 students for each
event)
Feats of Clay will be
held on First Friday at CLAY ARTS VEGAS
!!- FRIDAY, MAY 5,
2012. Please be there at 4:30pm. The event will begin at
5pm.
Food is not included for this year's event. However there are great restaurants nearby.
Category 1
- 15 minutes
MUGATHON - Each mug must be 3 inches tall (highest point)
and you must have a handle on each mug. One finger must be able to fit inside
the handle strap and three fingers must fit inside the mug. The most mugs
wins.
Category 2
- 15 minutes
NO HANDS
THROWING - You are allowed 50 lbs. of clay. You are not allowed to
use your hands at all. Any other body part is acceptable (head, knees, feet.)
The width plus the height equals the winner.
Category 3
- 15 minutes
CYLINDER
STACKING - Cylinders must be wheel thrown and can be any height or
width. This tower must be free standing and you can only have one stack. Tallest
stack wins.
Category 4
- 15 minutes
COIL
BUILDING EVENT- From the floor to the sky, coils are used to create
the tallest freestanding coil tower. If the tower falls before it gets measured,
it will be measured from its current height. Once again, this is a freestanding
sculpture.
Category 5
- 15 minutes
Pinch Pot
with Feet - 4 students will make a pinch pot and raise
it off the ground by creating "feet". The "feet" can be made in any hand
building method as long as a pinch pot is balanced at the top. There is no
minimum of how many "feet" you can use, and the size of the pinch pot must be
created from a baseball size ball of clay or larger. A maximum of 50 lbs of clay
may be used and students only have 15 minutes.
Category 6
- 15 minutes
House of
Cards -4 students will create slabs of clay (no required
thickness), and cut the slabs into rectangles (no size requirements). Students
then must stack the slabs like a house of cards. The tallest house of cards made
out of slabs of clay will win. A maximum of 50lbs of clay may be used and
students only have 15 minutes.
Scoring for each event
will go as follows for each event:
1st - 20 points,
2nd - 17 points, 3rd - 15
points, 4th - 10 points, the rest of the groups will
receive 8 points.
Each school will make a
t-shirt design for their school. The school should be wearing the same shirts.
The winner of the design will be awarded 10 points and all other teams who
designed a shirt will receive 7 points.
Each category will have 4
participants.
No prep work will be
allowed except for wedging. Also, no balling up of clay will be allowed.
We will have 10 high
schools allowed to participate this year. The first 10 to email me with an
official head count of no less than 6 and a maximum of 10 kids will be allowed
for each school. Once this is in order please email me to get registered.
REGISTRATION IS DUE BY
April 18, 2012 - I will have a registration
form and liability waiver right after spring break.
